I don’t know about you, but I have rummaged through my fair share of Medicine Cabinets over the years!
I remember, when I was a lot younger, it was always a scramble to get what I needed from the corner of the medicine cupboard. I had to first navigate through the mass of small, unlabelled medicine bottles, the near-empty bottles of cough syrup with dripping sticky ooze down the sides. I remember toothpaste-shaped tubes of cream so tightly wound you couldn’t see what it was, and certainly lots of expired medications! And the frustration and disillusionment when I saw the bottle I needed — right there at the back — yes, kept out of the light to keep it from going off — only to find when I pulled it out, it only had a dribble left.
When we run to our Medicine Cabinet we are usually desparate!
1/I have a pounding headache — I need paracetamol!.
2/Received a sting/allergic reaction — antihisimaine!
3/I’m bleeding — bandage! Help!
Whatever my ailment is, I need to stop it and right now!
We live in a sinful world. We live in a sick world which taints us every day.
God’s Medicine Cabinet is the Bible, His Word.
In God’s Medicine Cabinet you will find solutions for emotional stings, for heartburn, for uneasiness, for confused thinking. You will find vitamins and energy for the days ahead. You will find bandages and comfort. You will find cleansing and balm, rest and renewal.
We live in a tainted world and we are easily infected. Sin is contagious. God’s Medicine Cabinet, unlike our own, needs to be visited daily. Take full doses and if pain persists, seek the Physician.
“ Come as you are” — (feel free to look up this song on youtube)
Come As You Are— By Crowder
Come out of sadness from wherever you’ve been
Come broken-hearted, let the rescue begin
Come find your mercy, oh, sinner, come kneel
Earth has no sorrow that heaven can’t heal
So lay down your burdens lay down your shame
All who are broken lift up your face
Oh, wanderer, come home, you’re not too far
So lay down your hurt, lay down your heart, come as you are.
There’s hope for the hopeless, and all those who’ve strayed
Come sit at the table, come taste the grace
There’s rest for the weary, rest that endures
Earth has no sorrow that heaven can’t cure
Come as you are –
And fall in His arms, come as you are
There’s joy for the morning oh, sinner, be still
Earth has no sorrow that heaven can’t heal
Earth has no sorrow that heaven can’t heal
So lay down your burdens lay down your shame
All who are broken lift up your face
Oh, wanderer, come home you’re not too far
So lay down your hurt, lay down your heart
Come as you are…
